COVID-19 may have changed our plans for this year, but God is still at work in Chiapas! This past month, we gained a new guest at Casa de Esperanza and Torre Fuerte and its members have been busy being the hands and feet of Jesus in their community. Read below about what the Lord is doing in Chiapas, along with our next "Meet the Team" section and how you can be praying during this time.

Prayer Needs: COVID-19 in Chiapas

Chiapas, and Mexico as a whole, continue to see more cases of COVID-19 each day. They have yet to reach the peak of the pandemic in their country. Times are challenging for the people of Chiapas as many continue to go without work, struggle to feed their families, or find themselves ill. Some people have been able to return to work, but this has contributed to the recent spike in confirmed cases. A few of our team members, and members of the churches we have constructed, have been very sick over the last few weeks. Although we don't know for sure if they have COVID-19 due to the great cost of a test, we could assume that this is what they have contracted since the spread of the disease is increasing rapidly.

First, we ask that you would pray for the people that are sick. Many Chiapans lack medical attention due to living in remote locations or their financial state. Our prayers may be the only thing they have to carry them through this time. Additionally, we ask that you pray for the people that find themselves without work or food for their family. Pray that the Lord would provide for their needs and take care of them. Lastly, please pray a special blessing over our team and members of their churches. We ask that the Lord would heal those that are sick, protect those that aren't, and use them to bring hope to their hurting communities.

"Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well." James 5:15

"And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

Casa de Esperanza is Growing!

This past month, Casa de Esperanza welcomed a new guest! For security purposes, the pictures you see have been blurred and her name cannot be shared. Our newest guest is very excited and thankful to be at Casa de Esperanza. She was greeted with some new clothes, food and toiletries and is enjoying her experience so far. Recently, the government discovered our program and is now sending people to us. This is how we found out about our guest. Although we can not disclose much information about her situation, we know that God already knows her needs! Please pray for her as she adjusts to her new home and begins the road to healing and recovery.

Meet the Team: Pastor Alex

Pastor Alex is the Pastor of La Nueva Jerusalén Iglesia Jesus Cristo Sobre la Roca en Chenalhó. Along with pastoring his own congregation of about 150 people, he is a part of the leadership team of Alcancemos lo Posible and oversees numerous churches in and around Chenalhó and makes sure that those pastors have all the tools they need in order to best lead their church members. His church also hosts the large, bi-annual convention for Iglesia Jesus Cristo Sobre la Roca. Pastor Alex is a great leader, loves the Lord and has a big heart to see more and more people come to know Christ.

Work in Chenalhó is a family effort! Pastor Alex's brother, sisters, and parents help take care of the grounds, cook for our teams and anything else you can think of. They are extremely hospitable and go above and beyond in everything they do. We are so thankful for Pastor Alex, his family, and all of the work they do to make Christ's name known in Chenalhó.

The Local Church

Torre Fuerte continues to be the hands and feet of Jesus to their community, even during these difficult times. For the past few months, they have been working in a small community in Tuxtla about 15-20 minutes away from the church called The Colonial. This is a very poor community in Tuxtla that lacks running water and basic necessities. Many of these community members travel down the steep mountain and back by foot each week to come to church.

Before COVID-19, Pastor Carlos, Barbara and some of the church members were putting on weekly kid's services and delivering food and toiletries to the families in The Colonial. They have had to pause the weekly kid's services for now, but have been able to continue delivering and distributing food to the families. While they do this, they pray with each family, get to know their situation and invite them to church. We ask that you would pray for this ministry as they continue to minister during this difficult time. Pray that God would continue to use them to bring hope to a hurting community.
Thank you for your continued support of Pogue Family Missions and for being a part of sharing the love of Christ in Mexico. We believe that God will continue to change lives and are so excited to play a part in bringing glory to His Kingdom.
