We hope that your 2021 has started out strong! We are so excited for what the Lord has in store for this year and the opportunities that He will, and has already, presented us with to help others. Right now, there is a huge need for homes for families that have been displaced in Tuxtla. Read below to hear more about this and how you can be a part of providing shelter for the people in need.

200 Families Evicted Before Christmas

Just two days before Christmas, over 200 families were evicted from their homes in Tuxtla and forced to relocate. This is a very poor community close to Torre Fuerte. The church had been hosting weekly kids programs and given food and household supplies to the people. The members of this community have been paying monthly for the land that they had been living on but never received any legal documentation allowing them the live there. Now, after 7 years, the owner of the land wants to sell it and has forced all of the people to leave.

The families living in this community lived in homes made of wood, sheet metal, banners or any other materials they could find. Now, what little they had, has been taken away from them and many families are struggling to find a place to go. Some of the people living in this community are members of Torre Fuerte, so the church has been doing all that they can to help these people. We spent some time with Pastor Carlos and asked him to share the story of what has happened in this community, where the people are now, and what they hope to do for these families.
Update From Pastor Carlos

Let's Build Some Homes!

We would love to help this community in their time of need. Our goal is to purchase land and build four "casitas", or small homes, on the land. Each house costs $6,000 and the land will cost $25,000. If you feel led to give toward this project, please click the link below and include "Tuxtla Casitas" in the Special Instructions. If you're unable to help financially, we ask that you pray for the families that have been evicted and help us share this project. We know that with your help we can provide shelter to these families!

Hope for the Future

Although we have not been able to be in Mexico physically over the last few months, our efforts to support the people and the mission of our organization have not stopped. Thanks to your generous donations, we have been able to continue supporting the local orphanage, Casa Hogar Alegre, the clinic in Tuxtla, the widows at Casa de Esperanza, the local pastor, and we've been able to fund the building of four churches. We are looking forward to returning soon and continuing to be a part of the ministry taking place in Mexico. Our calendar is beginning to fill up with trips for 2021 and we are so excited for teams to be able to return! If your organization or church would like to book at trip for the upcoming year, please contact Matt Payne at mpayne@poguemissions.org.
